With a fleet of 8,094 ships, 18% of the global fleet, according to the most recent report of Panama’s Maritime Authority (AMP, per its initials in Spanish), the country continues to hold the first place in the world for ship registration.

Regarding Gross Registered Tons (GRT), the AMP report indicate that as of December 31, 2016 it reached 226,6 million tons, 4,1 million more than at the close of 2015.

The AMP highlighted that these numbers confirm Panama’s efforts to “develop strategies to penetrate markets to add various types of ships to its fleet, with the goal of strengthening, diversifying and growing the business”.
